Today I want to talk about a topic near and dear to all Phoenix area drivers, and that’s your car’s air-conditioning, specifically about service and repair issues.
For most of us, we don’t give our air conditioning a second thought, as long as it’s making cold air, right? But, it’s a complex and expensive system you should think about before it starts blowing hot air.
For example, you may not know that the refrigerant and the air conditioner circulates a special oil that lubricates the AC parts. As refrigerant leaks out, the lubricant doesn’t get moved through the system and the compressor doesn’t get enough oil to protect it, and it wears out faster than it should. Replacing a compressor is pretty expensive.
It’s important to inspect the air conditioner for leaks, as recommended, and recharge the refrigerant as needed. And recharging the refrigerant has another benefit. The system tends to gather moisture and become corrosive. That causes leaks in the system, which can be expensive to repair.
Recharging your car’s air conditioning system with refrigerant protects the air conditioning components and keeps the system operating at peak efficiency, so it doesn’t have to work as hard to keep you cool. In fact, the number one cause of AC problems is not enough refrigerant.
Even with regular service, can AC parts still wear out?
The answer is yes! Normal wear and tear eventually gets to all moving parts. Addressing problems early can save on more extensive repairs down the road.
So check your owner’s manual, or ask your service advisor here at Elite Auto Repair for inspection recommendations.
If you’re hearing strange sounds when your air conditioning turns on, or if it just isn’t as cold as it used to be, have us give it a once over and see what it’ll take to keep you cool.
