Things You Should Always Have in Your Car

Tempe Auto Repair Beware There are many things we all carry around in our cars. Usually, however, these things are items that we don't really need--books, an extra set of clothing, maybe even some snacks. But there are some things that everyone truly does need to have in their cars in case of emergencies. If you're ever stuck on the side of the road or lost, here are some of the items you should have in your car.
  • A first-aid kit. You never know when you may need a first-aid kit. Make certain it includes a wide variety of items such as bandages, disinfectant, some medication, etc. You may not need it for yourself, but you may come across others who do.
  • A flashlight. This is very important if your car breaks down at night. Even if you only drive in the city, don't count on the street lights to provide enough light to see by. You may also need a flashlight during the day to see under your hood or under the car. Also remember to carry extra batteries for your flashlight or purchase one that is hand-powered (it stores up energy when you crank its handle).
  • A tire pressure gauge. You may need to check your tires, especially if one of them looks low or the car seems to be riding oddly. Make certain to check all of your tires' pressure once a month or so and correct the air pressure if needed.
  • A blanket. This is especially important during the winter months or even the cold desert nights. If you're trapped in your car for more than an hour, it can become very cold, especially if you can't start your car. It's important that you can keep yourself and your passengers warm, especially if you have children or an elderly person in the car with you.
  • Jumper cables. If your car won't start, sometimes a pair of jumper cables and a friendly motorist will do the trick. However, not everyone carries jumper cables, so don't expect the other driver to have them. Also be sure you know how to properly use your jumper cables. Otherwise, they won't do much good.
  • A jack. Always make sure your car's jack is in the trunk or other designated place. If you take it out for any reason, make sure to put it back where it goes.
  • A lug wrench. Likewise, make certain you have a wrench you can use to remove the lug nuts on your tires in case you have a flat and need to change it.
  • A bottle of water. If your car runs out of water, you want to have a bottle on hand to refill it. This is especially important during the summer or if you live in a hot climate. You may also want to have water on hand in case you're stranded somewhere and need something to drink.
This may sound like a lot of items to have in your trunk, but most of them are fairly small and won't take up too much space. You'll be very thankful to have them if you find yourself stuck on the side of the road. Questions? Give us a call:Book An Appointment
