People today are busier than ever, with more places to go and things to do. If you need a little more utility out of your next vehicle, here are the top five reasons to consider an SUV, or to perhaps take care of and keep the one you already have. Number Five: More Space If you're typically hauling a lot of stuff, the cargo space you'll get with an SUV will make it easy to transport groceries, sports equipment or supplies you need to maintain your home. And there will be plenty of room for your golf clubs when it's time to take a road trip. Got kids, in-laws, animals, or even lots of crazy friends to haul around? Third-row seating makes SUVs a great mode of transportation for a crowd, and there are a lot of stylish options on the market. Number Four: Improved Safety If you're concerned with safety (and who isn't?), you'll find that many of today's SUVs hold up extremely well when it comes to crash tests. Be sure to research crash test scores from the federal government and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety online. You might also want to look for features like forward collision warning and blind spot monitoring, which will provide an extra measure of safety when you're out on the road. Number Three: Higher Towing Capacity Many SUVs provide plenty of power to pull heavy things, especially up long, steep grades. If you want to tow a boat or trailer, a lot of SUVs offer additional capabilities you won’t get from a typical family car. Number Two: Better Traction When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Many crossover SUVs are available with all-wheel drive, which provides a little extra assurance if you're driving through snow or wet weather. Meanwhile, more rugged, truck-based SUVs offer four-wheel drive systems that make them particularly capable whether you're trekking through winter’s worst, or venturing off the beaten path into the beautiful Arizona desert. Number One: More Comfort If you like to see the road ahead, you might appreciate the higher seating position of an SUV. Not only is sitting a little higher up more comfortable, it'll also make it easier to see what's ahead of the cars in front of you. If you're starting your search for an SUV, be sure to consider how much cargo and passenger space you need, as well as whether or not you need all-wheel drive.
