Volvo has always done things a little differently than BMW and Mercedes. Rather than hold back updates and release them all in "mid-cycle refreshes," Volvo prefers to let the changes dribble out slowly year after year. As a result of this process a car can change significantly over time but it happens so incrementally that to the casual observer it's still the same car that launched four years ago. Such is the case for the 2015 Volvo S60. Verses the S60 launched just four short years ago this S60 has new bumpers, hood, grille, seats, dashboard, infotainment system, gauge cluster, headlamps, new and revised safety systems, all-new engines, and a new 8-speed transmission. The question before us today is: are these changes enough to keep the S60 fresh and competitive while we wait for the complete model-line makeover we're all expecting in the next few years? Have a look at the video and decide for yourself

General Motors was formed from the remnants of the Henry Ford Company. After a dispute between Henry Ford and his investors, Ford left the company along with several of his key partners in March 1902. Ford's financial backer William Murphy and Lemuel Bowen, called in engineer Henry M. Leland of Leland & Faulconer Manufacturing Company to appraise the plant and equipment in preparation for a liquidation of the company's assets. Instead of offering an appraisal, Leland persuaded Murphy and Bowen to continue manufacturing automobiles using Leland's proven single-cylinder engine. A new company called the Cadillac Automobile Company was established on 22 August 1902. The company was named after French explorer Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac, who founded Detroit in 1701. General Motors purchased the company in 1909. Cadillac had laid the foundation for the modern mass production of automobiles by demonstrating the complete interchangeability of its precision pa ... read more

Yes, you heard that right...the two companies are looking into using tomato fibers for making automobile parts! They're testing the durability of this idea in relation to car wiring brackets and storage containers. Something like this is obviously very bio-friendly, as it employs tomato skins. "We're exploring whether this food processing byproduct makes sense for an automotive application," said Ellen Lee, plastics research technical specialist for Ford. "Our goal is to develop a strong, lightweight material that meets our vehicle requirements, while at the same time reducing our overall environmental impact." "We are delighted that the technology has been validated," said Vidhu Nagpal, a Heinz packaging director. "Although we are in the very early stages, and many questions remain, we are excited about the possibilities this could produce and the advancement of sustainable 100% plant-based plastics." This is the first time the auto industry and plants have crossed paths ... read more

The 2015 Lexus NX is a luxury compact crossover and competes with vehicles like Audi Q5 and BMW X3. The design is aggressive and the features are impressive. Although late to the upscale, small SUV party, the Lexus NX is far more than a fancy Toyota RAV4. Rather than typical Lexus plushness, the NX aims to be sporty and engaging. Engines include a new turbo four-cylinder (this is the first ever Turbo from Lexus for the American market) and a hybrid. Let's take a look

You may have been late on a few bills, or life quite literally handed you lemons, and it all seems irrelevant now, until you go to purchase a new car. The only thing stopping you is a stellar credit history and the lack of funds. What’s a desperate person to do? While it may seem appealing to purchase a car from those on-the-corner-lots, the follow-up maintenance and repairs may be more expensive in the long run. Is purchasing a new vehicle with bad credit feasibly possible? Yes, but only if you do your homework first. Of course, signing for a new car won’t immediately grant you top-notch credit status, but it will re-establish your credit over time if you’re diligent on your payments. So how do you go about the process? You need to apply for and take out a loan. While the ‘sketchy ’dealership on the corner may be one alternative, beware that not all dealerships will report to the credit bureaus (which is what you need to re-establish your cr ... read more

In some states Google is already operating self-driving cars, which are mainly updating Google maps street images. Have you ever wondered if this technology would come to the public at large? Just imagine, you get in your car on your way to work. You punch in your destination and then relax as you check e-mail and enjoy your morning coffee as your car automatically and safely delivers you to your destination. Near-future fact, or total fiction? It may be closer than you think! This update comes to us via AutoNews.com... It seems Automakers are pushing hard toward the goal of putting self-driving vehicles on public roads. The technology required to do so keeps showing up on new vehicles. Automobiles can already warn drivers of obstacles, impending collisions and lane departures. Some can nudge cars back into their lanes or even put the brakes on. However, a lack of infrastructure may slow the rise of auto-driving cars as it has the growth of e ... read more

Helicopter drones are nothing new. Autonomous, self-driving cars are already on the road, in fact we talked a lot about these cars last month. But what if you could put the two of them together? It might be a challenge, but just imagine! It sounds like something out of a futuristic video game. Scientists at Carnegie Mellon's National Robotics Engineering Center (NREC) have gotten together with Sikorsky, a leading supplier of military helicopters. In this 18-month study, the idea is to get eyes on the ground in areas too dangerous for humans by dropping autonomous vehicles from drone helicopters. (I never thought I would ever type that sentence!) Specifically, the study will use an auto-piloted Sikorsky Black Hawk helicopter, which can carry an unmanned ground vehicle in a sling. The helicopter will drop the ground vehicle at a designated location and return to its base of operations. The driverless vehicle will then perform scans of its environment, biological, nuclear and ... read more
